About the Artist 艺术家简介
Loo Foh Sang graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) in Singapore in 1965 and the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1969. He trained in printmaking under Stanley William Hayter at Atelier 17 in Paris, a key 20th-century printmaking workshop. Loo spent over two decades in Paris, establishing a studio and mastering printmaking, alongside oil painting, Chinese ink painting, and sketching.
In 1988, Loo returned to Malaysia, teaching printmaking at the Malaysian Institute of Art and later leading the Printmaking and Fine Art Departments at the Central Academy of Art. He served as a jury panelist for the 3rd International Triennial of Graphic Arts in Macedonia (2000) and was an in-house artist at the Romania Art Museum. His accolades include the Asia-Pacific Art Golden Award (2009), Blossom Arts Award (2017), and the Artespree Lifetime Achievement Award (2018). He has held over 30 solo exhibitions, including retrospectives at SGM Cultural Centre, KL (2004 & 2014), and shows at Sutra Gallery, KL (2005 & 2011). He also exhibited at the Paris Youth Biennale (1970 & 1971), ‘Warna-warna Ilham,’ Bank Negara Malaysia (1997), the 16th Sarcelles Biennale (2013), and the 3rd Qingdao International Contemporary Art Exhibition, China (2020).
